Dog Boots Review by Professional Pet Sitter

Let me first say, I have no association with the Pawz company (don’t I wish) other than I love their product!

I have to admit I was skeptical about the rubber balloon booties for a long time. For SURE, I though, they would not stay on my dog’s feet. How could they when they look so flimsy and have no fasteners, right?

But I was getting more than a little frustrated with all other options that I have tried, from the cheapest sock-like booties to sets that cost over $100, made of solid rubber and looking like human shoes. I really hoped that the most expensive ones would actually work, and by “work” I mean stay on for longer than 10 minutes, and my dogs would be able to walk and run as close to normal as possible.

Now I don’t know if it’s something about Cocker Spaniel legs that make it impossible for any dog boot to perform that seemingly simple and basic function of the product, but we were always disappointed, and always loosing boots.

After watching Emma (the Cocker Spaniel) and our client’s dogs trip all over themselves from loosened boots, and then suffer from the burning salt and sharp little stones, I made a last hope attempt to resolve this annoying issue. We stopped at a pet store and got the rubber balloons booties (by Pawz).

I won’t lie and tell you that they were any easier to put on than all the other models. They were not. I don’t think it’s a design flaw so much as Emma’s fluffy hairy legs (on whom I had to mercilessly practice) that make it close to impossible to pull anything up without ripping her hair. On other, less fluffy breeds, they are a breeze to put on.

Here is the low down from my personal experience:

Pros:

  • They stay on 90% better than any others I have tried! Enough said!
  • If you do loose one, just get another one from the pack
  • Disposable, and come in a pack of 12
  • Made of natural bio degradable rubber
  • Comparatively cheap

Cons:

  • Take some practice
  • Can rip easily
  • Stick together when stored wet
  • Some dogs try and chew them off

All in all, regardless of the difficulty in putting them on, I’m more than happy to go through that (and get better at it with practice) as long as they stay on the entire time we are out. AND THEY DO!
